you’ll always remember today as the day you almost printed captain jack sparrow

Looks insanely good for an fdm machine. If you like figurines you should definitely consider a resin printer tho. It's a game changer and they are not even expensive

u/florodude Aug 11 '22

But the nasty chemicals :(

4

u/sprinricco Aug 11 '22

Just handle it properly?

22

u/florodude Aug 11 '22

Bro I got 5 kids 😂 easier said than done!

3

u/Commercial-Yak-7190 Aug 11 '22

Same reason why I haven’t gotten one lol

19

u/Joseelmax Aug 12 '22

a kid or a resin printer?

10

u/Commercial-Yak-7190 Aug 12 '22

A resin printer will probably give me less issues in life lol

12

u/florodude Aug 12 '22

They're both toxic but if treated correctly can make life beautiful!

The resin printer will be cheaper short and long term.

u/Mavric723 Aug 12 '22

I have to both but I haven't messed with the resin printers in a while because of the hastle of the nasty chemicals I even built a shed away from the house to keep the cancer fumes away from the family yet I still keep going back to fdm just snip off supports but most prints I do are functional. The resin printers do have excellent resolution but also have a higher percentage of failed prints. My ender 3 goes at least 20prints before I have an issue and it's usually filament running out my Mars has a fail 1 out of 8 prints where it falls off the build plate and my monox has every 2nd print sticking to the fep and not the build plate I love them all but I keep going back to the gool old fdm. Even with fdm if I give a little love with a drimmel sand paper and primer filler it looks just as good as the resin prints just with a bit more work.

I’d choose the latter

u/Final_Tie8665 Aug 12 '22

If you started playing with these chemicals sooner you would probably only have 3 kids by now. :)

1

u/cyberstarl0rd Aug 12 '22

Garage print bro. Teach them boundaries.

2

u/Mavric723 Aug 12 '22

Have you met children you put boundaries they will pass them just out of defiance or curiosity because of the precieved concept of the forbidden fruit being sweeter.

1

u/cyberstarl0rd Aug 12 '22

Then you punish them. It's called parenting lol. I have to regularly take my son aside and have talks with him about why he shouldn't do something.

2

u/Mavric723 Aug 12 '22

Or at least let them know beforehand how dangerous the chemicals are if they are old enough to understand that it'll kill them that's fine hopefully they don't get into it and have health effects in the long-term. I got a chemical burn from an epoxy and now just getting near certain chemicals have me getting all itchy that didn't bother me before.

u/EnterprisingAmerican Aug 12 '22

In the paint or in the plastic?

5

u/florodude Aug 12 '22

Resin printers use harsh chemicals that can be dangerous if you're not careful with them. If used properly they're fine but you have to have the correct setup and not cut corners.

Hmm, delicious leaded paint

Awesome OP!

2

u/Ex0rc3t Aug 11 '22

This looks great, I can't even get bed adhesion on my Ender 3, lol. Pretty much given up on it and just use my resin printers now.

2

u/islander_boy_31 Aug 12 '22

Ender 3 is an awesome machine... I'm pretty sure it's just a quick fix. Don't give up on it mate...

1

u/theboz14 Aug 12 '22

Pei on the platform and you eill never have adhesion problems again as long as the bed is level.

On my Makergear m2, I use .250 mic6 aluminum plate with a PEI glued down to it, and i can print PLA, ABS, PETg, TPU without anything else, except heat

2

u/D5KDeutsche Aug 12 '22

Also, Garolite. If you've not tried it, it's worth a go. Switched from glass and never even considered going back.

2

u/ebjoker4 Aug 12 '22

fantastic work!

1

u/islander_boy_31 Aug 12 '22

Thanks mate... :)

Excellent work. Love the detail.

2

u/EmporerLingLing Aug 12 '22

I cannot express in words how impressed I am that this was printed off an FDM printer.

2

u/islander_boy_31 Aug 12 '22

It's possible to do these kinds of prints. But you also need to do lots of post processing to get the results you want

tack, din butik är fantastisk !!!!

2

u/D5KDeutsche Aug 12 '22

Doesn't look like anyone asked this - How did you do your supports for the back of the coat? I've really struggled getting good 'cape type' overhangs like this. Either a failed support, or fused permanently.

1

u/islander_boy_31 Aug 12 '22

I used tree support in cura :)

3

u/DemonicBrit1993 Aug 11 '22

When you printed me on that godforsaken 3D printer you forgot one very important thing mate... I'm cap'n Jack Sparrow! Savvy?

This is A class! Good job! Excited to see more of your models

4

u/islander_boy_31 Aug 11 '22
