You know why but I like to say it.

Because the financial markets as a whole will never be the same if they let this run the way it's supposed to.

Could seriously alter the balance of society and I don't even think that's hyperbole. Millions of people getting rich at once would change quite a bit, and I don't think any other thought has made these slimy hedge fucks more disgusted.

388

u/leisuremann Aug 11 '22

It wouldn't just be millions getting rich. It would be millions getting rich and some people and entities getting crushed. If our hypotheses are correct, the way equities get traded would look verrrrry different post moass. The DTC might not even exist after and a lot of people will lose faith in the market and how it's constructed.

Because the banks are going to bankrupt innocent people that they preyed upon in order to pay for MOASS. The banks will try to pass the bill to the taxpayers for the second time in 15 years. I don’t think people will stand for it. I know I won’t.

214

u/Spockies Aug 11 '22

Or closing the lowest shorts is also a way to increase the average.

Feels like the more time they gain to profit every day from the up and downs, they are buying back shares to close the most painful shorts.

DRS your shares. The sooner the float is locked, the sooner they are exposed.

We just witnessed the fact in the way they did our distribution, it goes deep. We predicted and expected something, didn't we. And afraid of the depths we're going to before it's over. But the heights we will experience drives me on.

Regardless. All or Nothing. Hodl on and DCA twice a month via ComputerShare, plus any unexpected windfalls go directly into shares.

I could never have guessed that not only are they in the red, but that we could lose 60% of current value and they would still be red. That is mind-numbing.

u/Uparmored Aug 11 '22 Helpful Wholesome All-Seeing Upvote Starry

They’re paying money to borrow the shares (that they’ve already sold). Who’s lending them the shares? One answer is the brokerage houses that retail users utilize to buy/hold their investments. It’s no different than holding your money in a bank. The banks don’t just sit on your money. They lend it out and make fees on it. And in both the case of banks and brokerage houses (maybe more clear/simplistic with stocks), they’re using YOUR/OUR assets to make money AND betting against us.

Imagine holding 10,000 shares of GME in a brokerage house and, unbeknownst to you, that brokerage loaning all 10,000 shares out (for a hefty fee) to some hedge fund who wants to short sell those shares to drive the value of the stock down. They’re using your stock as ammo to devalue your stock. Go figure…

DRS your motherfuckin’ shares, y’all.

125

u/SeniorMuchachito 🚀Pro Gamer Move - Wall Street Edition 🚀 Aug 11 '22

Exactly this. Also, the CEO of Overstock said the documents from his 30 million dollar lawsuit from discovery shows that securities lending is ~75% of some institutions profits. Think about that for a second. Securities lending is fairly autonomous, he said there's usually 4 guys needed for it.

It's time to be your own bank, let YOUR assets work for YOU, not earn ludicrous profits for institutions.

DRS.

It's time to be your own bank, let YOUR assets work for YOU, not earn ludicrous profits for institutions.

DRS.

I came here from /r/all

Whats DRS? Is it too late to jump on the train?

18

u/SeniorMuchachito 🚀Pro Gamer Move - Wall Street Edition 🚀 Aug 11 '22

DRS is just calling your broker and having them send your shares back to where they originated from. GameStop used Computershare which is used by almost 40% of all companies. They have offices around the world and provide a great service. You don't hear about them because they don't make mistakes. Bed Bath & Beyond uses AST, very similar to Computershare. They aren't brokers, they're transfer agents, so your shares are held in your name and can't be used against you. They have their own broker so you can still buy and sell like you would at your broker.

Bottom line, you retain all your basic shareholder rights. Brokers break the rules to make ludicrous profits bc they know enforcement doesn't happen.

When someone shorts a stock, they borrow a share and sell it, with the promise to return the share at a later date. They will usually have to pay interest on the value of the borrowed share to the entity they borrowed from (usually a broker-dealer). The borrower guarantees they will pay back the share by promising collateral. So the higher the price of a share goes, the more it costs to maintain the short position benefiting the loaner, until the borrower returns the share or doesn't have enough collateral to maintain the short position, in which case more collateral is used to secure the loan or the previously pledged collateral is used to purchase the share in order to fulfill the original promise (margin call).

u/hedgies_eunt_domus Aug 11 '22 Silver All-Seeing Upvote LOVE! Wholesome Seal of Approval

This seems to be a report based on legal shorts only. GME is being systematically attacked since 2015 from $47 (pre-split price) to below $4 when the sneeze started in 2020. So, it's assuming pre sneeze shorts closed or doubled down averaging up, which would be nuts. The U.S. House Committee on Financial Services report already stated DTCC waived billions in margin calls to avoid their liquidation (which is indicative they never closed their short positions), and it's pretty clear that we're not going anywhere, so what I'm reading is that shorts from 2015 to 2021 never closed, are deeply under water and the whole financial system is relying on jim cramer to make us give up.

Hedgies R fuk'd.

They didn’t waive margin calls. That’s misinformation, they waived margin capital requirements, not an actual margin call.

33

u/hedgies_eunt_domus Aug 11 '22

Key Finding #4: The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) waived $9.7 billion of collateral deposit requirements on January 28, 2021.

I may have misworded, but my point was that by waiving collateral requirements they avoided margin calls.

11

This is very poor analysis... They're just adding up the daily short volume on the stock, assuming that all of that is new shorted positions and then pro-rating when this short volume came in to the price of GME at the time, over the last 5 years. It's making a lot of assumptions with very incomplete data.

39

u/tepol 🎮 Power to the Players 🛑 Aug 11 '22

So not every short sale equates to a short position, as the trade may still be correctly settled during the T+2 period, is that what you're trying to say?
